How this works (and why it’s safe)
  • All generation uses the Web Crypto API on your device; nothing is uploaded.
  • The optional breach check uses the “k-anonymity” method — only the first 5 chars of a SHA-1 hash are sent to HIBP.
  • Best practice: use long, unique secrets (passphrases are great), plus multi-factor authentication.
  • Passphrase word list: mirrored locally from the EFF Large Wordlist (2016), licensed CC BY 3.0 — stored at /support-files/words-4096.txt.
  • The “likelihood” line is a rough brute-force estimate at a conservative default (offline fast hash ≈ 1e12 guesses/sec). Real risk also depends on phishing, reuse, and MFA.
