If your webcam or microphone suddenly stops working in Chrome or Edge, and you see a message like “camera microphone blocked by extension”, this guide walks you through a simple fix.
You’ll test in Incognito/InPrivate to confirm it’s an add-on, identify the exact extension causing the block, then whitelist or disable it safely.
At the end, you can use the eComputerZ Camera Microphone Blocked by Extension Test to confirm everything works again — no downloads, and nothing is uploaded.
Use this quick check before a video call: preview your camera, see live mic levels, and confirm your speakers are playing sound. If your browser blocks access, the permission helper shows exactly what to do next (including “blocked by an extension” fixes).

Short answers to the most common “why isn’t it working?” problems.
No. It only shows a local camera preview and microphone level meter in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Many browsers hide device labels until you grant permission at least once. Click “Start camera” or “Start mic”, allow access, then refresh devices.
Another app or tab is already using the camera or microphone (Teams, Zoom, Meet, etc.). Close them fully and try again.
Some browsers don’t support output selection, or they restrict it for privacy reasons. Use your system output settings, or try Chrome/Edge on desktop.
